The front nine features a beautiful parkland setting with acres of mowed grass, which allows a smooth transition into the woods and creeks of the back nine. Host of Michigan’s amateur championship for several years, The Dells is truly a fair and fun test of golf.

The course is truly a hidden gem. I have been playing the course for about 20 years. I’ve played many of the area’s top courses and put Antrim at the top of my list for course to play in Michigan. The staff is courteous and respectful. If you haven’t played Antrim, you haven’t played Michigan golf. It’s all there in one great golf course.

This is a great course to play. Generally not busy because of the location. The course offers an interesting layout. The first 9 holes allow the golfer to swing more freely without worrying about accuracy, while the back nine has a lot tighter fairways and a lot of hazards to deal with. It’s a great mixture for the golfer.

Since it’s opening in 2000, Black Lake has received many national awards and rankings. The 2009-2010 Golf Digest has selected Black Lake as #34 in their rankings of “100 Greatest Publlic courses in the United States”.

And while 2020 has drastically reduced date night it was such a holiday treat to be together for some special time away before #2 shows up and the hustle of the next few weeks swoops us up. ⠀

Our marriage is far from perfect, but I'm really freaking proud of it. Because we work at it. I grew up with an incredible example of partnership and I firmly believe that is a big part in what makes me mildly obsessive about non stop communication / time just the two of us. ⠀

We've had some wild adventures together. Shared a hostel room in Switzerland with a group of 10 guys on a snowboarding trip, took an overnight train around Europe with strangers in our sleeper car, driven across the country multiple times in our tiny little Volkswagen (best car ever). ⠀
⠀
We've camped in the back country of Grand Teton NP, we've had a drink on Brad Paisley's on stage bar at a music festival, we've been dog sledding across the UP, but the greatest adventure of all is our normal, very regular, very boring at times life, on a tiny 10 acre farm raising up a bunch of blonde headed babes. ⠀

I'm just grateful that our favorite fancy hotel is just a short drive down the road. 🙂 ⠀

Most folks would agree that finding your first Petoskey stone is a Michigander rite of passage. But do you know exactly what a Petoskey stone is? A fossil! Specifically, a fossil of long-gone Hexagonaria coral. This coral lived in prehistoric Michigan, when waters were warm, shallow, and even tropic! Once the Hexagonaria coral had fossilized into the Petoskey stones we know today, they were plucked from ancient Michigan bedrock by glaciers, and spread all over the state as the glaciers melted and moved.

Review-wise, i though it was entertaining but I didn’t love it. To me, it was a forgettable thriller, even though the concept is very intriguing. The twist was delivered in a kinda meh way and the plot requires some suspension of disbelief around the law and around certain characters behaviors. I hid it in a drawer and went outside. “Too early to get excited” I told myself. But I was so excited already.

So all summer, the dahlias, the garden, the plants- it meant more to me. I was obsessed. A history of loss gives you a real grip on anxiety during those first few months so when the dahlias were doing well I did some magical thinking that I was doing well. ⠀

Another week I kept the garden alive. Another week I stayed pregnant. ⠀
⠀
When the zinnias floundered I wondered if it was some weird ass sign. ⠀
⠀
But more so than grasping for control in a patch full of plants, they were my marker. My timeline. Of how slow, and painstakingly patient ya gotta be. And a reminder for the 2938373272th time that my thoughts & anxieties do not have to be truths. ⠀

We are expecting another baby this winter. We are overjoyed. There is no part of my fertility journey that has ever followed the obsessive, control freak timeline I set out for our 'family plan' 5 years ago- but forced going with the flow has been both the biggest lesson & gift in all of it. ⠀

Summer solstice has come and gone. Bucket lists are in full swing and weekends that have been a year in the making with friends and family are well underway. Just remember, don’t forget to pause, soak it all in and intentionally spend some time in a no wake zone.
Our midwestern habits tend to squeeze so much into these warmer months that summer can feel like it’s slipping away just as it begins but look how beautiful it is when you seek slow moments. Some of our favorite NoMi activities to ground ourselves in the season are watching boats come in, walking the shore for stones, lunch in Penn Park, browsing mcleanandeakin for summer reads (PS Where The Crawdads Sing!?!-still getting chills from the ending), sitting in the Rose Garden staffordshospitality watching the kids play on a Sunday evening after the town settles from the weekend. The theme of our trip to Michigan this week is “odd lodging” or L’odd’ging, if you will. 🏡 The coastal city of Charlevoix is home to several historic mushroom style houses both big and small. We spent the evening in an original mushroom house that has been renovated and reimagined - complete with several cozy fireplaces and enough beds to sleep up to 14 people. 💙The hobbit-style home was designed by famous architect Earl Young in 1918 and boasts a thatch roof that was made in Europe before it was sent straight to the US to be installed here. 🌿 It might not have been Middle Earth but it sure felt like the closest we could get to it in real life!

A ~little bit about me~ would probably consist of my love for quality time with people, a good bottle of red, yoga, traveling, & of course, chick fil a. I have spent so much time outside hiking/running/exploring during quarantine & have loved every second. Being active & prioritizing these things helps to keep me creative & feeling good, which is so so important! Photography is a very significant part of my life, not only because it’s my job but also because it’s an outlet in which I can communicate and share my perspective of the world with others. I absolutely love being a wedding photographer because I get to bring your vision to reality & build relationships with people during one of the best seasons of their life.
