This classic Jerry Matthew’s design surrounds the golfer with natural beauty and spectacular views. The front nine features a beautiful parkland setting with acres of mowed grass, which allows a smooth transition into the woods and creeks of the back nine. Host of Michigan’s amateur championship for several years, The Dells is truly a fair and fun test of golf.

The course is truly a hidden gem. I have been playing the course for about 20 years. I’ve played many of the area’s top courses and put Antrim at the top of my list for course to play in Michigan. The staff is courteous and respectful. If you haven’t played Antrim, you haven’t played Michigan golf. It’s all there in one great golf course.

This is a great course to play. Generally not busy because of the location. The course offers an interesting layout. The first 9 holes allow the golfer to swing more freely without worrying about accuracy, while the back nine has a lot tighter fairways and a lot of hazards to deal with. It’s a great mixture for the golfer.

Since it’s opening in 2000, Black Lake has received many national awards and rankings. The 2009-2010 Golf Digest has selected Black Lake as #34 in their rankings of “100 Greatest Publlic courses in the United States”.
Black Lake Golf Club is an 18 hole public golf course designed by nationally acclaimed architect Rees Jones, most known for his restoration work on many US Open courses.
Black Lake is a true championship test of golf which will provide all levels of golfers an experience they will not forget.

Emma & Daniel: Part One
It was a chilly, but cozy, fall weekend on Walloon Lake. The wind pulling leaves from the trees. The sun sneaking through to grace us with a whisper of her presence throughout the day.
This wedding was especially meaningful for me, as Emma is dear to my heart—one of LSE’s first lead event coordinators. Emma started with Luna Soiree Events in 2014, and 10 years later, I got to send her down the aisle.
She and Daniel started dating in her last year with LSE, and I had a feeling he was going to stick. They are absolutely perfect for eachother, always sneaking smiles, laughing and staying active together. I love planning with couples who truly want to plan their wedding weekend celebration together!
One last add to Part One. I must commend hotelwalloon for the absolutely spectacular guest service and accommodations. What an absolute treat it was to spend the weekend here, producing this incredible celebration with them.

Continuing along on my week of posting some of the most dramatic golfscapes I’ve played and photographed over the past couple years we come to the beautiful Links/Quarry Course at Bay Harbor Golf Club in Petoskey, Michigan.
The flagship of the boyne.golf Northern Michigan empire, Links/Quarry grabs you immediately at the clubhouse, then bombards your visual senses throughout the front 9 with 5 holes played alongside the cliffs above Little Traverse Bay.
The Quarry 9 then meanders out into a quarry that features stark changes in elevation, beautiful water hazards and a lot of really creative Arthur Hills design before finishing with two more jaw-dropping holes along the lake, including the fabulous par 3 17th and tumultuous downhill par 4 18th.
What a setting. What a clubhouse. What a departure from the norm of everything I’d ever seen of Arthur Hills’ golf course architecture. We were all blown away by the Bay Harbor golf experience (and Petoskey is a really cool summer beach town, too!), and it got me to thinking:

When the rain stops and the clouds break…making way for the sun to cast its light on this mystical early fall scene along M-31’s northernmost stretch of shoreline…while a rainbow spans beautifully across the sky and as if that couldn’t already be perfect enough, a sailboat cruises into the scene! Here is another random (from the backlogs a plenty!😉), a magical early October 2022 scene! Every year, I always discover new parts to love about it. The way the water shapes the sand or seeing new colors in the sunset - there’s nothing quite like it. Summer solstice has come and gone. Bucket lists are in full swing and weekends that have been a year in the making with friends and family are well underway. Just remember, don’t forget to pause, soak it all in and intentionally spend some time in a no wake zone.
Our midwestern habits tend to squeeze so much into these warmer months that summer can feel like it’s slipping away just as it begins but look how beautiful it is when you seek slow moments. Some of our favorite NoMi activities to ground ourselves in the season are watching boats come in, walking the shore for stones, lunch in Penn Park, browsing mcleanandeakin for summer reads (PS Where The Crawdads Sing!?!-still getting chills from the ending), sitting in the Rose Garden staffordshospitality watching the kids play on a Sunday evening after the town settles from the weekend. The theme of our trip to Michigan this week is “odd lodging” or L’odd’ging, if you will. 🏡 The coastal city of Charlevoix is home to several historic mushroom style houses both big and small. We spent the evening in an original mushroom house that has been renovated and reimagined - complete with several cozy fireplaces and enough beds to sleep up to 14 people. 💙The hobbit-style home was designed by famous architect Earl Young in 1918 and boasts a thatch roof that was made in Europe before it was sent straight to the US to be installed here. 🌿 It might not have been Middle Earth but it sure felt like the closest we could get to it in real life!
