Parking lots and alleys in downtown Charlevoix offer opportunities for new business, redevelopment, and downtown access for pedestrians, bicyclists, and cars. Bounded by Bridge, Park, State, and Clinton Streets, one such “multi-modal” area – a space that serves multiple traffic types – has been the subject of discussion about how and whether it can be enhanced to better serve the community. What improvements are necessary? How should it be designed? What are the safety concerns? How can this area connect the downtown with other community attractions?

To help answer these questions and create a community consensus about the area, Michigan State University is providing planning and design services through its Sustainable Built Environment Initiative (SBEI). To follow up from the June 7th Kickoff Meeting, Charlevoix residents, businesses, and others are invited to a public input event on August 17th to provide feedback on the first round of suggestions made by the SBEI team.
