National Morel Mushroom Festival – May 11 – 15, 2016

Morel FestivalEach May, Boyne City, Michigan fills with hundreds of mushroom lovers from around the country who come seeking that elusive delicacy-the marvelous morel. Found in nearby woods and clearings, morels are favored by those who know their โ€˜shrooms.

Boyne City has hosted the National Morel Mushroom Festival for 56 years.

For a few short days, everything is all about mushrooms. Restaurants prepare exotic, morel-laden entrees, local songsters sing of the morel (click on the player to the left to listen), secret hunting places (maybe) and recipes (definitely) are shared, and everybody goes on one of the mushroom hunts. A good year can yield hundreds of the mouth-watering treats. But even when a dry spell or late spring makes morels scarce, morels can be tasted at several tasting events and the festival is always fun for everyone.

The festival is always the weekend after Mothers Day and this year the festivities start on Thursday, May 11th and runs through Sunday, May 15th.

Michiganโ€™s mighty morel summons fans nationwide to Boyne City

I would be interested in a paint class for this pic. Are you going to offer those after the quarantine is over?

I think doing a series of festivals not to be is a great idea. We were really looking forward to having your event this year. It looks so beautiful! I am sure it would have been a great success. Keep us in mind for next year?

National Morel Mushroom Festival

Members of the National Morel Festival committee are heartbroken to announce that the 60th National Morel Mushroom Festival to be held in Boyne City, Michigan will be cancelled this year due to coronavirus concerns. Festival organizers made this decision after much discussion and concern for their community. The festival was scheduled for May 14-17.

โ€œOur committee has spent the last 9 months planning for a great 60th celebration and we are disappointed that we must cancel,โ€ said board member, Kim Brown. "The festival attracts visitors from around the USA and internationally and we feel it is best to cancel at this time."

We will plan to bring the festival back in 2021 with our amazing events and food, as it has become a right of springtime in the Boyne area! We also invite anyone interested to our join our committee as we make plans for next May.

We will keep you updated here and at our website, bcmorelfestival.com. Thank you to everyone for your support and stay well!

You folks do an amazing job with the festival. Thanks for all of your hard work and we will look forward to 2021!๐ŸŽ‰

Thank you for thinking about the health of our community over the money that the festival brings in.

I’m so sad and so over this virus and the awful things it is doing to our people and the events it’s shutting down etc. I pray everyone stays healthy and safe and can’t wait for next year! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ™

Thank you for thinking of our small community when making this though call. God bless you all for your hard work. โค๏ธ

So bummed ๐Ÿ˜. I love this festival, and have turned it into a family tradition trip, but will look forward to 2021, be safe every one ๐Ÿ’•

So sorry to see this. We love coming up for this event but completely understand your decision ♥๏ธ

So sad to hear this, but I understand. We’ll be there next year. Take care!

It’s so sad we have to do this. It brings in so many people to our beautiful little town.

It's the right decision. I'm sure it'll be back in full force next year.

Merediths family kettle corn. Respects your very difficult and sad decision. We will miss you all

I know it's for the best, but this is a total bummer. One of our favorite ways to kick off spring is the festival.

So sad but it's best to use common sense at this point.

So sorry to hear, but the community understands.

I was so looking forward to being a vendor but I totally understand. Looking forward to next year. Blessings

Little early to cancel I think

I’ll still be out hunting. So everyone stay 100 meters away from my spots ๐Ÿ˜†

Safety first.

It's the right thing to do!

I am planning a trip to Boyne to hunt morels but im new to it and need a place to hunt them any recommendations, I dont want to drive all that way and not find anything or a place to hunt them
