National Morel Mushroom Festival – May 11 – 15, 2016

Morel FestivalEach May, Boyne City, Michigan fills with hundreds of mushroom lovers from around the country who come seeking that elusive delicacy-the marvelous morel. Found in nearby woods and clearings, morels are favored by those who know their ‘shrooms.

Boyne City has hosted the National Morel Mushroom Festival for 56 years.

For a few short days, everything is all about mushrooms. Restaurants prepare exotic, morel-laden entrees, local songsters sing of the morel (click on the player to the left to listen), secret hunting places (maybe) and recipes (definitely) are shared, and everybody goes on one of the mushroom hunts. A good year can yield hundreds of the mouth-watering treats. But even when a dry spell or late spring makes morels scarce, morels can be tasted at several tasting events and the festival is always fun for everyone.

The festival is always the weekend after Mothers Day and this year the festivities start on Thursday, May 11th and runs through Sunday, May 15th.

Michigan’s mighty morel summons fans nationwide to Boyne City

National Morel Mushroom Festival

Members of the National Morel Festival committee are heartbroken to announce that the 60th National Morel Mushroom Festival to be held in Boyne City, Michigan will be cancelled this year due to coronavirus concerns. Festival organizers made this decision after much discussion and concern for their community. The festival was scheduled for May 14-17.

“Our committee has spent the last 9 months planning for a great 60th celebration and we are disappointed that we must cancel,” said board member, Kim Brown. "The festival attracts visitors from around the USA and internationally and we feel it is best to cancel at this time."

We will plan to bring the festival back in 2021 with our amazing events and food, as it has become a right of springtime in the Boyne area! We also invite anyone interested to our join our committee as we make plans for next May.

We will keep you updated here and at our website, bcmorelfestival.com. Thank you to everyone for your support and stay well!

Thank you for thinking of our small community when making this though call. God bless you all for your hard work. ❤️

So very sad ,but totatly nessceary in these unknown times , stay safe and healthy.

Thank you for thinking about the health of our community over the money that the festival brings in.

Was finally going to get to come to our very first one and I will have to wait till next year. It’ll still be the 60th anniversary though. From Findlay Ohio

So sorry to see this. We love coming up for this event but completely understand your decision ♥️

I know it's for the best, but this is a total bummer. One of our favorite ways to kick off spring is the festival.

So sad to hear this, but I understand. We’ll be there next year. Take care!

It’s so sad we have to do this. It brings in so many people to our beautiful little town.

It's the right decision. I'm sure it'll be back in full force next year.

So sad but it's best to use common sense at this point.

So sorry to hear, but the community understands.

I was so looking forward to being a vendor but I totally understand. Looking forward to next year. Blessings

Merediths family kettle corn. Respects your very difficult and sad decision. We will miss you all

I'm brokenhearted 😭 See you next year!

I’ll still be out hunting. So everyone stay 100 meters away from my spots 😆

Little early to cancel I think

Safety first.

It's the right thing to do!

I’m so sad and so over this virus and the awful things it is doing to our people and the events it’s shutting down etc. I pray everyone stays healthy and safe and can’t wait for next year! 💜🙏

you are doing the right thing

So sorry!

Thank you for all you do! We will miss having this, but look forward to next year.
