Most folks would agree that finding your first Petoskey stone is a Michigander rite of passage. But do you know exactly what a Petoskey stone is? A fossil! Specifically, a fossil of long-gone Hexagonaria coral. This coral lived in prehistoric Michigan, when waters were warm, shallow, and even tropic! Continuing along on my week of posting some of the most dramatic golfscapes I’ve played and photographed over the past couple years we come to the beautiful Links/Quarry Course at Bay Harbor Golf Club in Petoskey, Michigan.
The flagship of the boyne.golf Northern Michigan empire, Links/Quarry grabs you immediately at the clubhouse, then bombards your visual senses throughout the front 9 with 5 holes played alongside the cliffs above Little Traverse Bay.
The Quarry 9 then meanders out into a quarry that features stark changes in elevation, beautiful water hazards and a lot of really creative Arthur Hills design before finishing with two more jaw-dropping holes along the lake, including the fabulous par 3 17th and tumultuous downhill par 4 18th.
What a setting. What a clubhouse. What a departure from the norm of everything I’d ever seen of Arthur Hills’ golf course architecture. We were all blown away by the Bay Harbor golf experience (and Petoskey is a really cool summer beach town, too!), and it got me to thinking:

Speaking of hidden gems 💎 ....... On our recent trip to Petoskey State Park, I had wanted to go out to Harbor Point and the Little Traverse Lighthouse and do some exploring. We took the short drive to Harbor Springs, and as we got to this peninsula, we were told that the whole thing is private property. ☹️☹️. So we found a nice spot in the harbor and let my drone do its thing 🔥🔥.
We were stunned to have a very special group of readers come by the store for a visit today! Vice Presidential candidate timwalz his wife Gwen, & daughter Hope stopped by the store to peruse our shelves.
Tim talked with Matt about some of his favorite reads which included Andy Weir’s “Project Hail Mary,” and Adrian Tchaikovsky’s “Children of Time.” And in return, Matt suggested he pick up “Recursion” by Blake Crouch and Reilly shared her passion for “Red Rising” by Pierce Brown!
Hope found our vinyl section and picked up “Dope Lemon” and TSwift’s “1989.”

I’ve been doing some *serious* vacation reading up here and I started and finished THE SILENT PATIENT yesterday. 👀📖 Thrillers are my jam when I’m lounging on the beach or in a cabin and lots of people recommended this one on my thriller post a few weeks back. I serendipitously found it in a Little Free Library a few days ago! •

Review-wise, i though it was entertaining but I didn’t love it. To me, it was a forgettable thriller, even though the concept is very intriguing. The twist was delivered in a kinda meh way and the plot requires some suspension of disbelief around the law and around certain characters behaviors. However, I know a lot of you love this book, so let’s chat about it! 👇🏼👇🏼
